When West oxon really expanded in the late 1980s, it was on the governments adopted scheme to dual the A40 with overpasses at the main junctions and roundabouts.
Shortly after a change of direction from government led to the detrunking of the A40 and a cancellation of the scheme!
since then tens of thousands of houses have been built west of Oxford, so the queues trying to get past Oxford have grown even longer. Often right back to Witney. Please understand the vast majority of this traffic is going past Oxford not into it!
The ridiculous decision to build another 2000 houses, and a garden village of 3000 houses at Eynsham will obviously only make matters worse.
The Park and ride should have been built in either Witney or Carterton to have any effect, as over 80% of the bus traffic goes over the tollbridge in Eynsham building a bus lane down the A40 is another nonsense.
The finance for the bus lane is dependant on building 3000 houses in the garden village and 2000 at Eynsham ( the garden village does not even comply with the governments recommendation’s) most of which will be occupied by overspill from Oxford.
when will we make updating the A40 seriously!!
