Wildlife: Urban grassland & verge guidelines
From "Greenlight Library"
Go to the project

This guide focuses on how to help wildlife thrive in urban grasslands and verges. It summarises leading guidance on 4 main principles:
- mowing less often
- collecting the cuttings
- leaving uncut refuges for wildlife
- creating varied habitats
It also provides a table of grasses, flowers and shrubs and lists the associated butterfly species each type supports, as well as recommended species for seeding urban meadows.
It is suitable for anyone who manages any area of grassland, big or small.
Produced in collaboration between The Leverhulme Centre, Oxford Martin School, Environmental Change Institute and the University of Oxford.
