Set up a standardised capability to make nature display materials for parishes

Marcus Simmons•3 years ago Wychwood Forest Trust have produced a really valuable illustrative map which ‘tells the story’ of society and land use across the ‘greater Wychwood Forest’ area and its implications for ecology and social planning today (see link below):https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t65BUHy1PdcAFIbXlQrPtW5Ps1BdgBd9/view?usp=sharingIt would be very helpful to produce analogous maps and interpretive displays for individual parishes, both within and without this ‘greater Wychwood Forest’ area. All steps of planning such displays would be beyond the capabilities and resources of most parish councils, but if WODC funded a ‘central capability’ for producing such resources, then individual parishes could make use of such a capability (perhaps using an accessible small grant award scheme) so that they could produce their own resources using fairly standardised methods.Link to Wychwood Forest Trust: https://www.wychwoodforesttrust.co.uk(CAG Oxfordshire has no funding or formal relationship with Wychwood Forest Trust, but is an admirer of their work). Wychwood Forest Trust have not [yet] been consulted regarding this idea).

Exploiting Big Chalk initiative for an ambitious ‘Wychwood Forest’ vision

Marcus Simmons•3 years ago WODC officers and key cabinet members should work with the Wychwood Forest Trust and parish councils in the greater Wychwood Forest area, to plan now on how to exploit the Big Chalk initiative, and explore options to develop a substantially more ambitious vision for coordinated Nature Recovery (and community amenity) action across the whole ‘greater Wychwood Forest’ area). Holding a discussion and ‘next steps resolution’ workshop (day or half day) could achieve significant, substantive progress on this. CAG Oxfordshire could run this, if given active support (and some small resources) by WODC.Link to Wychwood Forest Trust: https://www.wychwoodforesttrust.co.uk(CAG Oxfordshire has no funding or formal relationship with Wychwood Forest Trust, but is an admirer of their work). Exploiting understanding of our Nature Recovery Network

Marcus Simmons•3 years ago Arguably, both District planning officers and parish councillors could benefit from greater understanding of Oxfordshire’s Nature Recovery Network and the evolving approach to Nature Recovery planning that is associated with this (see this presentation for more information, for example):https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GCspGDHXLA3YMOAvrxmVdGjr8RNk-SJ1/view?usp=sharingSo, to promote such understanding, WODC should sponsor a workshop (day or half day) where officers and councillors convene to learn about this topic and agree some practical steps that would produce better exploitation of this understanding for community benefits in West Oxon parishes/towns. CAG Oxfordshire could run this, if given active support (and some small resources) by WODC.
