Election Staff Availability for Oxfordshire County Council Elections – Thursday 1 May 2025

There are no scheduled District or Parish elections in May 2025.

You may have seen that the Government has published plans to reform local Government and some County Council elections may be postponed this year. At this time, elections for Oxfordshire County Council elections are taking place. It is anticipated that the Government will confirm if the elections will be postponed in late January/early February.

We will update you further when we can but for now, we are planning for the elections to take place in May 2025.

We are therefore contacting people who have previously worked for us on elections to seek your interest and availability for working at the elections year. 

We require staff for the following roles on the dates / times set out below. Please note that you must be available to work for the whole of any day/session you advise you are available to work.

Additional information on the roles is set out further below:

  • Postal Vote opening staff: Weekdays from 10am, Friday 18 April (exact first opening date tbc) – Wednesday 30 April at the Council’s Offices, Woodgreen, Witney OX28 1NB and Thursday 1 May from 8pm at Windrush Leisure Centre, Witney;
  • Polling station staff (Presiding Officers / Poll Clerks): Thursday 1 May (6.30am to 10.30pm) – all polling stations across the District;
  • Verification staff: Thursday 1 May (9.30pm to early hours of the morning approx. 2am) at Windrush Leisure Centre, Witney;
  • Count Staff: Friday 2 May (approx. 8.15am to late afternoon/early evening);

If you are interested in working on this election, please complete the below form below by Friday 14 February 2025. If you have any difficulties with completing the form, please email election.staff@westoxon.gov.uk indicating your name, address and availability, role you are interested in. 

Important Information - If you are intending to stand as a candidate at any of the elections, or have a close relative who will be standing, please indicate on the return form as it could impact on the roles you are allowed to undertake.

Please note that West Oxfordshire District Council employees must have the approval of their line manager if election duties fall on your normal working day. You will be able to claim election duty absence (business absence) for your usual working hours if you are employed in an election role on Thursday 1 or Friday 2 May. You may not claim election duty absence for working on postal votes during your usual working hours.
